Intermediate Group Lessons

 

Crawler Class:                 Max Ratio = 1:6                                Class Time: 45min                            Criteria: CRL-1, 5~8yo

This level is designed for swimmers with a mastery of fundamental swimming skills. The prerequisite is the capability to swim over 5 yards without aid. The class goal is to learn basic freestyle (FR) and backstroke (BK) leading to the ability to swim over 20 yards of each without aid, while maintaining good FR & BK kick. Swimmers will learn to push off on their front and back, glide in a streamline, swim freestyle with decent side breathing and swim basic backstroke. The instructor will teach in the water. The minimum age requirement can be waived if the swimmer is promoted from a current Calphin swim program by a Calphin Deck Supervisor. For new students, the minimum age must be rounded up to 5yo.

 

 

Glider Class:                     Max Ratio = 1:8                                Class Time: 45min                            Criteria: GLD-1, up to 18yo

This level is designed for proficient swimmers who have already mastered the basics of freestyle and backstroke. The prerequisite is the capability to swim 20+ yards of freestyle and backstroke nonstop. The class goal is to learn breaststroke, improve freestyle and backstroke, improve breathe control, introduce timing on 50yd swims for three strokes, and be able to swim 500+ yds within the 45min class time. Graduates will be able to swim over 150+ yds. of freestyle non-stop. Graduates will be able to swim on their own and know basic safety and survival skills in a deep, 25yd, 80F, competitive training pool. The instructor will teach the class from in the water to maximally improve the swimmer’s technique with hands on corrections.

 

 

 

Advanced Group Lessons

 

Sprinter Class:                 Max Ratio = 1:10                             Class Time: 1 hr.                               Criteria: SPR-1, up to 18yo

The first of Calphin’s advanced levels. This level is designed for swimmers with strong freestyle, backstroke, and breastroke who are ready to tackle butterfly. The class prerequisite is the capability to swim 100 yds. non-stop in three strokes with USA Swimming legal The class goal is to learn dolphin kicks, butterfly (Fly), and be able to swim 1000+ yds. within the 1-hr class time. Swimmers will be introduced to speed work and sprints while improving the three formerly learned strokes. Graduates will be able to swim over 300+ yards of freestyle non-stop with good side breathing. The instructor will teach the class from outside the water.

 

 

Racer Class:                       Max Ratio = 1:12                             Class Time: 1 hr.                               Criteria: RCR-1, up to 18yo

This level is designed for advanced swimmers with strong understanding of all four strokes. The class prerequisite is the ability to swim 200 yd. sets nonstop in three strokes, respectively, with decent butterfly. The class goal is to learn basic competitive swim skills, be able to swim 1200+ yds. within the 1-hr class time, and enhance all four strokes in strength, stamina, and technique. The class graduates will be able to swim over 400 yards with decent freestyle and swim 50yds of all four strokes in decent time/speed. The instructor will teach the class from outside the water.

 

 

Challenger Class:             Max Ratio = 1:14                             Class Time: 1 hr.                               Criteria: CHL-1, up to 18yo

This level is designed for advanced swimmers ready to learn high level swim skills. The class prerequisite is the capability to swim all four strokes with good technique. The class goal is to swim 1500+yds within the 1-hr class time, learn racing techniques, make improvement on swim speed racing times, and improve advanced competitive skills such as racing starts, turns, finishes, and racing stamina. The instructor will teach the class from outside the water.

 

 

Master Class:                     Max Ratio = 1:14                              Class Time: 1 hr.                               Criteria: MST-1, up to 18yo

This level is designed for the highest-level swimmers at Calphin who already have a deep understanding of all four strokes and advanced additional skills. The class prerequisite is the ability to swim all four strokes with robust, high-level technique. The class goal is to swim 1700+ yds. within the 1-hr class time, refine all four strokes, improve racing techniques, stamina, speed, racing starts, turns, finishes, and to eventually approach B+ times (the B+ time standards for USA Swimming Boys 10 & Under).  Graduates will be ready to race in any local swim meets or competitions.  The instructor will teach the class from outside the water.

 

 

Elite Clinic Class:            Max Ratio = 1:14             Class Time: 1 hr.                                               Criteria: ELT, up to 18yo

This class is designed for Calphin’s elite who have already demonstrated their skills by graduating the program. The class prerequisite is meeting the Calphin graduation requirements. The class goal is for the graduates, or team swimmers, to continue to refine and perfect their competitive skills on starts, turns, finishes, kicks, and all strokes. The class will help swimmer improve both their overall technique and sprint times. The instructor will teach the class from outside the water.
